PRESS RELEASE - Karlskrona 25 August 1999 Danisco Sugar AB switches from fixed telephones to a wireless workplace Danisco Sugar AB is now replacing its fixed telephones with mobile telephones - both at its factories and its offices. An agreement from July with Europolitan means that all its employees from now on can be reached anywhere, even when they are not at their workplace. This makes Danisco the first company in the food industry to make a complete transition to mobile telecommunication. Danisco Sugar AB - formerly Sockerbolaget - is Sweden's only sugar manufacturer. In addition to its head office and the Arlöv sugar refinery, both located outside Malmö, the company also has operations in Jordberga, Köpingebro, Örtofta and Svedala. Thanks to the agreement with Europolitan, the whole of Danisco Sugar AB will now become a wireless company. All fixed telephones are being replaced by mobile telephones, and Danisco's six different facilities will be linked by a network with a joint switch located at the head office in Arlöv. This involves around 700 employees. "We were looking for a comprehensive solution, and Europolitan came up with one for us. We will now have a communication system that is easy to use, and that will improve accessibility for our suppliers and customers, as well as internally. And in relative terms, both investment costs and call costs are lower," says Göran Svensson, in charge of telecoms procurement at Danisco Sugar AB. The agreement with Europolitan includes a so-called zone solution based on different debiting systems depending on where an employee is calling from. Internal calls within the six zones in which Danisco's facilities are located follow one tariff, while the charge for calls from outside these six zones follows another tariff. Employees at Danisco will have access to the same type of switch functions as in the fixed network, such as short numbers, re- routing, voice mailboxes and conference calls. The company will also have access to several mobile services, such as the ability to send or receive text messages, mobile faxes and mobile data. Europolitan has also expanded the network in Danisco's area to enhance coverage and capacity. "It is very encouraging that even companies outside the IT sector are choosing to use the latest technology and employ our services. Lately, the interest shown in the wireless office has spread significantly," says Robert Nilsson, Sales Manager at Europolitan AB. Europolitan AB is a Swedish GSM operator whose priorities are service and quality. The company's head office is located in Karlskrona. The company is at the cutting edge of developments in terms of technically advanced services for GSM 900/18000. The Europolitan Group, which also includes the sister company Europolitan Stores AB and the Parent Company Europolitan Holdings AB, currently employs around 800 people.
