Europolitan to recruit 300 employees and invest SEK 20 million in 3G R&D Europolitan is today commencing the recruitment of up to 300 new employees following the decision by the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) to award a UMTS licence for 3G mobile telephony networks to Europolitan.The company will also be investing SEK 20 million in research and development focusing on 3G in collaboration with the Universities of Karlskrona/Ronneby, Borlänge and Luleå. The 300 or so new employees will be recruited to Europolitan's head office in Karlskrona and the company's offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. The professional groups involved are mainly IT and telecom technicians, business administration graduates and market economists. "In addition to the 300 we are looking for immediately, we believe that our expansion of the 3G network will contribute to several thousand more job opportunities among entrepreneurs and service development companies," says Jon Risfelt, MD and CEO of Europolitan. Europolitan will also be investing SEK 20 million in research and development in collaboration with the University of Karlskrona/Ronneby, the University of Dalarna (Borlänge) and the University of Luleå. At the University of Karlskrona/Ronneby, SEK 4 million will be invested in research on security and integrity, and SEK 6 million will be spent at the University of Dalarna on traffic applications research. Finally, SEK 12 million will be going to the University of Luleå for distance education. "We regard all these areas as strategically crucial and we are prepared to allocate more funds if necessary," says Jon Risfelt.
