Europolitan Vodafone applies for wireless broadband licence Europolitan Vodafone has applied to Post- och Telestyrelsen (the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency) for a licence to provide fixed radio access. Fixed radio access is a wireless broadband variant enabling operators to offer wireless telecoms and datacom's services. Europolitan has two main areas in mind for this technology: the sale of network services to operators and the sale of direct connections to companies for Europolitan's own services. With fixed radio access, whole areas, parts of cities or small towns get wireless broadband coverage. No subterranean transmission is required, which means simpler, faster installation. Moving the facility is also made easier as the same equipment can be used, which means no new investments necessary. "In our opinion this technology will be of great interest for our corporate customers as well as our service providers and other operators," says Johan Holmgren, Director Public Relations at Europolitan Vodafone.
