Europolitan Vodafone collaborate with C Technologies subsidiary Anoto, regarding new communication services Europolitan Vodafone and Anoto have signed a partnership agreement to provide paper-based wireless communication services to Europolitan Vodafone's subscribers. Later this year services will be introduced enabling handwritten text to be sent directly from paper as a graphical e-mail, fax or SMS. The notes are written on ordinary paper with Anoto functionality and forwarded by a digital pen via a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, directly to a computer, mobile phone or fax machine. Anoto's concept will be tested and evaluated on Europolitan Vodafone's network during the year. The aim is to launch the services gradually throughout 2001 and into 2002. The revenue model will be based on a division of the revenue from the services, whereby Anoto is providing the infrastructure together with some basic services, and Europolitan Vodafone will investigate the possibility of developing and expanding the services further. "Europolitan Vodafone is a natural partner for Anoto. Their strong position in the Swedish marketplace and their large amount of corporate customers fits Anoto's concept of digital paper-based services perfectly. Europolitan Vodafone holds a strong position within the Vodafone Group in respect of mobile services which can lead to global partnerships," said Christer Fåhraeus, President of Anoto AB. Anoto has previously announced a number of major partnerships within the pen and paper industry. The cooperation with Europolitan Vodafone is strategically important and enhances the fact that the business model is now complete enabling delivery of digital pen and paper applications. "Europolitan Vodafone's main objective is to provide a broad selection of the market's most qualitative services. The Anoto concept, with paper- based services using an ordinary pen, fits our strategy well. We believe that Anoto's solutions have tremendous potential, the fact that we can offer these services to our entire customer base of mobile phone subscribers makes it very interesting in a long term perspective. Europolitan Vodafone is part of the Vodafone Group and as the relationship develops, there are possibilities that other mobile operators within Vodafone will use the services, said Jon Risfelt, President and CEO of Europolitan Vodafone. Anoto's concept is possible through three different components: ordinary paper made digital by the almost invisible Anoto pattern, digital pens with Bluetooth communication, and services provided through a mobile network operator.
