Euroseek and Netscape Announce Search Engine Adoption Agreement The Swedish company Euroseek today signed an agreement with Netscape Communications, a subsidiary of America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) to act as the search engine on nine Netscape® Netcenter portals in Europe. In addition, Euroseek announced it would license Netscape's Open Directory Project, the largest human-edited directory in cyberspace. The agreement will lead to an extensive exposure for the Euroseek brand and for more specific local searches by users of European Netcenter sites. The Swedish company Euroseek (www.euroseek.com), which offers Internet services such as portals, search facilities, information, maintenance, e- commerce and broadband access has consolidated its position as one of the big players in the market for search engines by providing its search features to the millions of European users of Netscape Netcenter. "Our agreement with Netscape gives us greater weight in Europe," said Peter de Verdier, Euroseek Vice President for Marketing and Sales. "The exposure gained from our relationship will lead to increased traffic at the same time benefiting the European users of the Netscape brand by providing them with localized search options." Under terms of the pan-European agreement, users of the Netcenter portals in Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain will have direct access to Euroseek's comprehensive search engine. Users of localized versions of the new Netscape 6 browser will be able to benefit from Euroseek search results via the Web search field in the main browser toolbar for easy and quick access to search results. Euroseek, in turn, will license data from the Netscape's Open Directory Project (ODP), currently the largest human-powered search directory with over 1.6 million sites in over 260,000 categories, compiled and organized by over 23,000 editors worldwide. Euroseek's adoption of the ODP will assure that its users will be receiving the most up-to-date and relevant search results by employing the industry's first freshness dating system delivering less than one-percent dead links. "We are excited by our partnership with Euroseek and the ability to draw from their European expertise," said John Heins, Netscape Vice President for Sales and International Operations. "Through Euroseek's established leadership in the search field and their adoption of the ODP, the European users of Netscape properties will have easy access to relevant regional search results."
