Top 5 Things to Do at a German Christmas Market

5. Converse with the Vendors – One of the best things about the market is the variety of vendors that you have. From an authentic German vendor like German Christmas Store.com and Kathe Wolhfart, to vendors from Peru, Africa and even Poland—each of them have a unique story to tell about their one-of-a-kind products brought to you from around the world.

4. Bring the furry pals on —as long as they’re on leashes, they’re free to enjoy the market with you and your family!

3. Visit with the Angel –  The Christkindl Angel is a fairy-like being with blonde hair, angelic wings, and brings gifts to the children each year (the German version of Santa’s job).  Come visit with the Arlington Christkindl Angel as she brings holiday cheer to the masses at the Christkindl Market! When not visiting with the festival goers, she’s leading the Children’s Lanter Parade every Wednesday.

2. Food and Drink—the food!  We know the biggest deciding factor in attending any sort of event is the FOOD, and the Arlington Christkindl Market has the authentic German food truck,  Ketzler’s Schnitzel Shack! Other favorites include vendors BratHaus, with delicious bratwurst, knackwurst, etc. Crepe Crazy, Adina Express—providing delicious Peruvian sweets as well as roasted nuts, pork sandwiches and potato pancakes.

For drinks, stop by the Bier Hauses for German mulled wine, or glühwein, German beers, wine and hot apple cider, sure to keep you warm for the holidays. And let’s not forget the deliciously delicious (did we say, DELICIOUS?) Six Flags Hot Chocolate is something that cannot be missed, and they’ve brought it down the street for market-goers to enjoy.

1. There’s plenty of stuff for the kids to do! – Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. What on earth can my kids do there? In addition to gallivanting with the Christkindl Angel during the Children’s Lantern parade every Wednesday and taking photos in the Santa Haus with St. Nicolas, this year’s market added two new activities just for the little ones: the Bavarian petting zoo and the Marionette theatre.

Lllamas, zebus, goats OH MY! Spend some time with your child at the Bavarian petting zoo, with potbelly pigs, a baby cow sheep and other animals you’d find in the Bavarian alps! Entry to the petting zoo is $5 per child and adults get in FREE!

Entertain your kids at the Marionette Theatre’s Holly Jolly Christmas, a musical hand-carved marionette show featuring traditional holiday characters sure to put your family in the holiday spirit—just in case they weren’t already. Click here for tickets.
