Nordic winners join EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year
Entrepreneurs and innovators from near 50 countries gather in Monaco for this year’s EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year. The Nordic national winners span from salmon farming to real estate, a manufacturer of mobile, collaborative robots and a manufacturer of office phone booths and meeting pods for offices.
EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year, the world’s largest programme of its kind, is taking place from June 5-9 in Monaco. It is the culmination of this year’s regional events in 150 cities and national finals in 50 countries – ultimately one winner will become EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019.
“We want to celebrate the world’s most successful entrepreneurs and their impact on the economy, on job creation, on innovation and on their communities. Ultimately there is just one EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year but all country winners are there because of their success and ability to inspire others, “says Carlos Esterling partner in EY and director for EY Entrepreneur Of The Year in Sweden.
The event in Monaco also covers talks, debates, interviews and networking.
Sweden: Urban Edenström from Stronghold Invest AB
Urban Edenström is a serial entrepreneur who has created several companies that have all grown vigorously and established market-leading positions. Stronghold Invest AB, founded in 1994, is the leading property advisory, asset Management, fund management and proptech company in Northern Europe. Currently, the portfolio consists of seven holdings, with approximately 2,000 employees across 40 offices and operates in nine countries.
Over 20 years ago Urban took digitalisation into the real estate industry and to the customers in northern Europe through his own drive and curiosity. Through the ability to see opportunities, assess risk and lie ahead of the market, Urban has pushed forward companies like Newsec, Niam and Datcha.
Norway: Per Grieg Jr. from Grieg Seafood
Grieg Seafood was started in 1992 by Per Grieg Jr., then 35. It is headquartered in Bergen and has grown into one of the world's largest fish farming companies. The company has production facilities for farmed salmon in the north and south of Norway in addition to Shetland and Canada.
The company delivers the equivalent of 800,000 meals every day. The goal is to expand further, especially internationally. Per believes there is still a good potential for that. While 70 per cent of the globe is covered by water, only 2 per cent of human food comes from the sea.
Finland: Samu Hällfors from Framery
Sometimes it only takes one disturbingly loud phone call to get successful business idea. Samu Hällfors and his company Framery designs and builds soundproof environments and spaces for office surroundings, such as telephone booths and conference rooms, which make work more efficient and, as a result, also enhance employee happiness.
The company started its journey from a garage in western Finland in 2010. Today, the company is a pioneer and undisputed market leader in its industry, with a turnover of more than EUR 63 million and employing over 290 people.
Denmark: Thomas Visti and Niels Jul Jakobsen from Mobile Industrial Robots
Thomas Visti and Niels Jul Jacobsen are on a mission to develop user-friendly, flexible and safe robots. Today, a leading manufacturer and a first mover in the field, Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) has enjoyed a rapid, worldwide adoption of innovative robots that are used by manufacturers in a wide range of industries around the world.
In recent years, one of the world’s top robotics clusters and an entirely new industry in Denmark has developed in the city of Odense with more than 120 companies. Thomas and Niels help build this new industry locally, they inspire others to work in robotics and they support education to promote interest in science and engineering.
