Berlin / New York, N.Y. (February 13, 2012)CINELAN announced that the latest filmmakers to join the FOCUS FORWARD - Short Films, Big Ideas initiative, which will make its international premiere at the 2012 Berlinale Talent Campus, are Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker (Gunner Palace), Michael Glawogger (Workingman’s Death), and Supriyo Sen (Wagah), an alumnus of the Campus. The first five films in the series will screen today at 2pm at a special public event and panel session at HAU1 in Berlin. Several FOCUS FORWARD filmmakers, including Jessica Yu, Phil Cox, Fredrik Gertten, and David W. The films are also available for viewing online at http://www.focusforwardfilms.com.

CINELAN is a supporter of this year’s Berlinale Talent Campus and has brought along award-winning filmmakers to inspire emerging talents and encourage submissions to the $200,000 FOCUS FORWARD Filmmaker Challenge, first announced at the Sundance Film Festival in January. GE and CINELAN plan to award cash prizes to the top five entries in the professionally juried Challenge (http://www.focusforwardfilms.com/challenge), with $100,000 going to the Grand Jury Award Winner. Submissions for the Challenge open in April.

“We are thrilled to be supporting the Berlinale Talent Campus on the occasion of its 10th anniversary,” said CINELAN co-founder Karol Martesko-Fenster, “and to put some of the world’s best practitioners of documentary in conversation with the new generation of filmmakers. By inviting them to submit their own short films to our series on innovative thinkers and pioneering ideas that have bettered humanity, we hope to discover some fresh, brilliant young voices and hear stories of next-level inventions from around the world that might otherwise be overlooked.”
