The Welsh Government has confirmed its 2014/15 funding for Charity, Family Fund, the UK’s largest provider of grants to low-income families raising disabled and seriously ill children.

The funding, due to arrive in April, has been confirmed at the same level as last year, £2.6 million which in that period helped provide essential grant items to 4,952 families across Wales.

As soon as the funding arrives with Family Fund, work will begin to help the back log of over 550 families awaiting grant support through April and May.

Cheryl Ward, Chief Executive at Family Fund said:

“I am very pleased that working closely with the Welsh Government has meant this issue has been resolved as quickly as possible.  Family Fund is extremely grateful for the continued support from the Welsh Government both over the past 40 years and going forward into this year.  We will now put work in place to try and minimise any further delay to those families in Wales who are awaiting a response to their application.  I would like to thank families for their patience and understanding during this time.”

Families who have already completed and sent through an application form, do not need to take any further action as they will be contacted directly in due course.  Family Fund encourages families from across Wales to apply for a grant, with more information available on www.familyfund.org.uk

Family Fund

The Family Fund is one of the UK’s largest grant-giving charities which, for forty years, have helped families with disabled children. It helps ease the additional pressures faced by low-income families raising a disabled child by giving them grants for a wide range of goods and services, including washing machines, dryers, fridges, clothing, bedding, sensory toys, computers, much-needed family breaks and more. Across the UK last year, the Fund supported 66,900 families with £33 million in funding, 5,000 more than the previous year.  Family Fund receives grants from private donors as well as each of the four UK governments.
