MAYOR or MISCREANT? New Web App Invites Foursquare Pranksters to Cover Up Dubious Behavior

Famous Interactive Taps Foursquare API to Enable Remote Check-Ins from My4SquareAlibi.com

01.26.2011– Culver City, Cali. – Sometimes you just need a good alibi. Thanks to a new app launched today by digital agency Famous Interactive, users of Foursquare have just the tool they need. My4SquareAlibi.com allows people to check-in to any Foursquare venue in the world, letting users indulge in secret pleasures without sacrificing public image.

To demonstrate the tool’s value and promote the site, The Famous Group (Famous Interactive’s sister company and video production powerhouse) produced a series of cheeky My 4Square Alibi testimonial videos featuring alternative comedians who lend their acting talents to a bevy of off-kilter characters. Prominent stand-up personality Bill Dwyer stars as My 4Square Alibi’s CEO and founder, explaining that, “The problem isn’t our secret passions: it’s the lying and covering up that goes along with it. That’s why I created this fantastic new website.” From a slacker husband who spends his time playing Call Of Duty instead of seeking employment to a frugal housewife who buys questionable foodstuffs from an unrefrigerated panel truck, the testimonials extol the benefits of having a digital alibi, your Foursquare history, that won’t crack under pressure.

While the intent of the app and testimonial videos are to entertain, My 4Square Alibi is a fully functional application built by Brandon Fisch, Famous Interactive’s lead social developer. His foray into Foursquare development started six months ago when a client’s social media campaign called for integration that went beyond existing Foursquare functionality. As a .NET developer, Fisch had to assemble a code library (which he released to the Open Source development community) that would allow the Foursquare API to easily communicate with the .NET programming platform. Famous Interactive’s creative and social media teams saw the opportunity to put the code library to use in a fun, fresh, and admittedly irreverent campaign of their own, and My 4Square Alibi was born.

“When you fill a building with creative technologists and digital storytellers, you come up with more good ideas than just the ones clients ask for,” says Sonya Cifuentes-Hiss, Social Media Strategist at Famous Interactive. “We’ve had an incredibly fun time building My4SquareAlibi.com – Getting to showcase our development, video production, copywriting, and social media marketing chops is icing on the cake.”
