Professor Robert C. Gallo joins the Tripep Board of Directors

Professor Robert C. Gallo has accepted to become a member of the Tripep board of Directors. Professor Robert C. Gallo is the most famous HIV scientist in the USA. He is the Director of “the Institute of Human Virology” in Baltimore and professor at the University of Maryland. Simultaneously with Luc Montaigner, Gallo discovered that AIDS is caused by the retrovirus we now call HIV. Gallo also developed the first blood test for HIV and hence has contributed to save millions of human lives. Previously Gallo had discovered the two first human retroviruses HTLV-I (which causes a form of leukemia) and HTLV-II. He also made discoveries which made it possible to culture the type of white blood cells that HIV infects. This was a prerequisite for discovering HIV, and was used by Luc Montaigner. After the discovery of HIV Gallo has become one of the leading HIV researchers in the world and he has published over 1100 scientific articles. Apart from receiving a significant (85) number of scientific awards Gallo has on two occasions received the “US Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award”, the most prestigious scientific award in medical science in the USA. Gallo is also a member of “the National Academy of Sciences” the most exclusive scientific society in the USA. Gallo has received no less than 22 honorary doctorates among others at the Karolinska Institute in 1998. The Board of Directors of Tripep has resolved to convene an extraordinary general meeting on 16 December, 2005 to resolve on the election of Robert C. Gallo as new member of the Board. The board member Yiming Shao is at the same time proposed to resign from the Board and will instead enter Tripep's Scientific Advisory Board. The Board of Directors and Tripep's Nomination Committee further propose that the EGM resolves to issue promissory notes with detachable warrants to Robert C. Gallo and Yiming Shao.
