Flying Doctors Nigeria teams up with UK call centre to improve lifesaving air transport services

  • UK-based call centre to operate 365 days a year, 24 hours per day
  • Dispatch of emergency medical services improved thanks to stable telecommunications

London, UK - Flying Doctors Nigeria has entered into a key agreement with a UK-based call centre to improve its lifesaving air transport services across Africa.

The partnership will eradicate the risk of delay in getting through to an emergency operator, which currently exists due to communications glitches still occasionally experienced, with local infrastructure. This is a risk Flying Doctors is unwilling to allow in its emergency support services.

The company believes that the stable telecoms platform provided by the UK call centre will further enhance its emergency response capabilities, enabling it to react quicker to local and international emergencies, and speeding up the dispatch of lifesaving air transport for ill and injured patients.  The UK call centre will run 365 days a year, 24 hours per day.

Dr. Ola Orekunrin, Managing Director of FDN, is strongly committed to improving the quality of medical aid across Africa:

“There have been examples of patients not receiving urgent medical attention because of communications failure.  Even one single such case is one too many.

“Our decision to team up with a UK call centre will ensure that any patient needing medical aid will have options in reaching an emergency operator 24 hours a day. Patients in international locations will find it easier to connect with our emergency services.  This will allow Flying Doctors to provide quicker medical care, saving valuable lives.”

In 2012, ten of the fastest growing economies were in Africa. Recent statistics however show that there are just 4 physicians to every 100,000 people in on the continent. Companies operating here thus need to ensure that their employees are safe and that, if illness occurs, they have a reliable plan in place to get medical attention quickly.

Flying Doctors Nigeria offers a unique and lifesaving service across Africa. The company’s medical teams have transported patients to and from almost every continent in the world.

It has medical partnerships in several key countries including the UK, USA, South Africa, India, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, among others.
