This year's nominees for the internationally renowned Felix Schoeller Photo Award have been announced. The expert jury, consisting of the art historian and curator Cathérine Hug from the Kunsthaus Zürich, the director of the Museumsquartier Osnabrück Nils-Arne Kässens, the art consultant Simone Klein and the visual director of the art magazine ART Hannah Schuh, as well as the jury chairman and photographer Michael Dannenmann, has selected the five best works in each of the categories Portrait, Sustainability, Photojournalism and Young Talent, as well as for the German Peace Prize for Photography.

The jury for the German Peace Prize for Photography was completed by Ulrich Schneckener, Professor of International Relations & Peace and Conflict Research at the University of Osnabrück. The winners of the individual categories will be announced at a festive awards ceremony in Osnabrück on 4 May 2023.

It took the jury one day to select the most interesting concepts and best photographs from a shortlist of around 150 entries. After constructive and controversial discussions, the shortlist was decided. According to the jury, they not only reflect the full visual power of the medium of photography, but also set trends in the photographic implementation of important social issues. Of particular interest is the wide international range of the 25 nominees. The jury was also impressed by the high level of creativity and personal commitment shown by the mostly young photographers in the realisation of their respective themes.

Jury spokesman Michael Dannenmann: "The nominees for the Felix Schoeller Award 2023 impressively show that a young generation of photographers is growing up all over the world who, with their fresh visual language, are giving the medium new impetus in the visual communication of content".

All nominees' images can now be viewed in the gallery on the competition website https://www.felix-schoeller-photoaward.com.

In addition, the winning images and the works of the 25 nominees will be on display in a major exhibition at the Museumsquartier Osnabrück from 5 May to 6 August 2023.
