The jury for the Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2015 has drawn up its shortlist
143 top-class entries from 32 countries have been shortlisted
The international Felix Schoeller Photo Award for professional photographers is entering the final stage. The five-member jury chaired by Michael Dannenmann (BFF/DGPh) has shortlisted 143 entries and will select the nominated work and prizewinners for this year’s award at the end of August. A category winner will be chosen for each of the five categories and the winner of the Emerging Photographer award donated by Phase One of Denmark will also be selected. The awards ceremony will take place on 27.09.2015 in Osnabrück’s Cultural History Museum.
The entries for this year’s Felix Schoeller Photo Award reflect a very broad spectrum of international contemporary photography. “It is striking that numerous pieces of work in several categories explore critical social issues. Young photographers in particular address political and social injustices. It will be interesting to see how the jury discuss this aspect,” says Michael Dannenmann. Overall, the jury reported that the quality of the entries is incredibly high, reaffirming the fact that the Felix Schoeller Photo Award has already established itself internationally – even though it is only the second time it has run. The fact that the 132 entrants on the short list come from 32 countries is proof of this.
The final stage of the competition will be at the end of August. The jury will begin by nominating five entries in each category and for the Emerging Photographer award, the winner of which will be given a Phase One camera system to use for one month. The category winners are then selected from the list of nominees and the Gold Award Winner is chosen from the five category winners to receive the 2015 Felix Schoeller Photo Award. To guarantee impartiality, the entries will be anonymous until the jury has completed its decision-making.
Osnabrück’s Cultural History Museum will host the prize ceremony on 27 September 2015, followed by the exhibition opening. The exhibition will run from 27.09.2015 to 17.01.2016.
