Personal Trainer Ron Munvez gives tips on fun ways to keep your resolution to lose weight in 2011

A New Year means new resolutions to make to start fresh in 2011. One of the most common resolutions is to lose weight in the New Year. Although resolving to get healthy in 2011 is a great way to start the year, it may be easier said than done. Many people may dread going to the gym and spending hours on an eliptical, only to find that they get bored and quit before they have even broken a sweat. However, most of these people may not know that recreational things like ice skating and lazer tag can melt away calories while still providing excitement and fun to a workout. Fitness expert Ron Munvez gives great tips on how to burn calories with friends and family and still have a blast doing it. Here are 5 exciting things to do to get rid of that pesky weight in 2011:

  1. Dancing: Don’t want to work out alone? Grab a partner and sign up for a couples dance class. Choosing either a slow ballroom dancing class or a fast paced salsa dance class will help the average person burn over 400 calories per hour.

  2. Ice Skating: This is a fun seasonal activity that the whole family can enjoy. Grab the kids and hit your local ice rink. The average person burns about 400 calories an hour ice skating. To keep the healthy momentum going opt for a hot tea and skip the hot chocolate.

  3. Indoor Rockclimbing: Some local recreation centers have indoor rock climbing courses. Here, guests can climb the course and burn up to a whopping 800 calories per hour!

  4. Lazer Tag: This recreational activity can be found at local arcades and family fun centers. This is another acitivity that can be done with the whole family. It also burns about 500 calories per hour.

  5. Playing in the snow: It may sound childish, but participating in activities like making snow angels, snowball fights and sledding can actually help burn calories in the winter months. Making snow angels can burn over 200 calories per hour, a snowball fight can burn up to 300 calories per hour and sledding can burn up to 500 calories per hour.
