Stockholm/Eskilstuna, the 7th of April 2020 – Sustainable payment wearables will be created when tech and recycled materials meet in a project between Fidesmo and Eskilstuna Folk High School this Spring.

The Swedish tech company Fidesmo and the Recycle Design program at Eskilstuna Folk High School is kicking off the joint project “Recycled fashion meets fintech”. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the possibilities of giving recycled materials new life, even more value and new usability by integrating modern technology. By using recycled materials from ReTuna Återbruksgalleria and small NFC-chips, the students will create a variety of fashion wearables with payment functionality.

- During the program, the participants will explore the theory of addressing the local and global challenges of the 21st century, as well as using that knowledge in practical assignments .The course combines recycled craftsmanship and design with knowledge of material flows and production conditions. It will be exciting to add a tech aspect to the course this Spring together with Fidesmo, says Anna-Maria Hilborn, course responsible at the Recycle Design program.

The NFC chip is connected to the payment service Fidesmo Pay, which makes it possible to connect a payment card to the wearable. NFC stands for Near Field Communication and is the technology used for everything that you can tap and use contactlessly, e.g. a payment card or a public transport card.

- We are looking forward to launching this greatly anticipated project together with the Recycle Design program. Sustainable fashion and technology is a perfect match – mixing two ways of smart thinking – and not least something we will see more of in the future, says Hanna Olsson, Consumer Marketing Manager at Fidesmo.

- The technology trend is moving towards technology being more and more integrated into the everyday things we have around us. Being able to pay with an accessory or a garment allows us to leave our wallets at home. Since circular thinking and recycling is one of the most important aspects of a sustainable future, I am very keen to see what innovative ideas that will result from this project, says technology blogger and influencer Elin Häggberg, who runs Teknifik.se
