Houstonians To Raise Thousands For Local Colleges In 18 Holes
HOUSTON, July 26, 2016 - East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA) is set to host its third annual Workforce Development Golf Tournament on October 28, 2016 in partnership with the Texas Chemical Council (TCC) and Greater Houston Area Association of Builder Contractors (ABC). Since the first tournament two years ago, the initiative has raised more than $425,000 to support technical programs and scholarships at local colleges.
The shotgun-style tournament will be held at Wildcat Golf Course, and EHCMA hopes to exceed last year’s fundraising total of $275,000. The event proceeds are donated to San Jacinto College, Lee College and Houston Community College, and play a vital role in helping students enroll in programs that provide the education and training needed to fill the skills gap in the petrochemical and construction and contracting industries.
“The Workforce Development Golf Tournament has a significant impact on our community and is made possible by our sponsors, tournament partners and Workforce Development Committee,” said EHCMA Chairman Monty Heins. “This event is essential to help our future workforce take advantage of career opportunities within the petrochemical industry. With the help of our industry and community partners, we are making real progress towards addressing the critical need of filling 19,000 positions annually for the next 3-5 years."
EHCMA is committed to creating opportunities for local students to access education programs, which provide the skills and certifications necessary for entry into the growing workforce.
