East Harris County Manufacturers Association Aims to Raise More than $200K

HOUSTON, August 6, 2015 –Technical skills students from Lee College and San Jacinto College will benefit from funds raised at the second Workforce Development Golf Tournament hosted by the East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA).

In its inaugural year, the golf tournament raised more than $150,000 in proceeds benefiting endowed college scholarships supporting technical and Process Technology (PTEC) programs. EHCMA aims to surpass last years’ fundraising goal on Friday, October 30 hosted at the Wildcat Golf Club. The tournament is hosted in partnership with over 20 sponsor organizations from the community.

“The Workforce Development Golf Tournament shows the value our hardworking EHCMA Workforce Development committee puts toward empowering students to enter the industry and be successful,” said Todd Monette, Chairman of EHCMA. “About 50 percent of the employee base in the region is expected to retire in the coming years, and filling those openings with knowledgeable and skilled workers is imperative to the continued strength of the industry. Supporting these students’ education benefits our entire community, and our Workforce Development Committee and tournament sponsors make that support possible.”

EHCMA focuses heavily on the workforce development issues facing the industry, and sponsors numerous initiatives to create opportunities for local students to access skilled education programs, particularly focused on successful petrochemical or manufacturing careers.
