Encounters with Babaji

Master of the Himalayas

What would it be like to meet an avatar? Babaji is believed to be a Mahavatar, a human manifestation of the Divine who can materialise a human body at will.

Babaji's most recent physical manifestation was between 1970 and 1984, when he appeared in a holy cave at the foot of Mount Kailash in a remote village called Haidakhan. Many people, from all over the world, were mystically drawn to Babaji through extraordinary events, dreams and visions and received his blessings. Renata Caddy had many meetings with Babaji and in her book Encounters with Babaji she relates with simplicity and sincerity her experiences of meeting with this extraordinary being.

Through personal stories and photographs, Caddy describes her first meeting with Babaji during a stay in India in 1978 as well as the 72 meetings that followed in the next six years, until Babaji gave up his human form in 1984. She then relates the events that occurred during her several pilgrimages to Mount Kailash in Tibet, where she felt Babaji’s presence strongly and was even more compelled to follow his teachings of truth, simplicity, love, and service to humanity. Full of wisdom, this illuminating book contains a message of spiritual development that will resonate with anyone of an open heart and mind, regardless of religion.

Babaji urged the people to "follow the religion that is in your heart." He said "every religion leads to the same divine goal" and that he had come to revive the eternal and ageless religion, the Sanatan Dharma; the three basic principles: Truth, Simplicity, and Love.

Babaji said: "I am Bhole Baba, the Simple Father. I am nobody and nothing. I am only like a mirror in which you see yourself. I am like fire. Don't keep too far away or you will not get the warmth; but don't come too near, or you will burn yourself. Learn the right distance. My name is Maha Prabhuji, the Great Lord. I have come to give. Are you ready to receive? I give everything, but few ask for the real thing I have come to give. I am no one's guru, and yet the guru of gurus."

Many people have been drawn to Babaji and many spiritual centres in the West have been dedicated to Babaji and his teachings. Thousands of people all over the world have received Babaji's blessings and have been called to the spiritual path through extraordinary events, dreams and visions.

The legendary Babaji is regarded as a prophet. There are many stories of encounters with him. Through these encounters Babaji spread his message of peace and understanding throughout the world Caddy was fortunate to be one of those who met Babaji in his last incarnation.
