Finesse Leisure urge people to join Bone Marrow Register

Report this content

The team at Finesse Leisure are calling for people to join the bone marrow register in support of a member of staff whose niece and nephew suffer from a rare genetic blood disorder.

James and Emma, aged 3 and 5, have been diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia (FA), a serious blood disorder which also affects many of the body’s organs, tissues and systems. FA also increases the risk of some cancers and other serious health problems.

This disease can lead to bone marrow failure and therefore can be treated with a bone marrow transplant.

There is a matching donor for James on the bone marrow register, but currently there is no suitable donor for Emma.

Emma’s health has begun to quickly deteriorate and medical specialists have told her parents, Rachelle and Malcolm, that unless a bone marrow donor can be found, she may only have 18 months to live. Currently, there is no one on the register in the entire world who is a match for Emma.

There are two ways to sign up to join the Bone Marrow Register. Anyone aged 16-30 can join the Anthony Nolan Register, or if you’re aged between 17 and 55, you can join the Delete Blood Cancer register. It is extremely simple to find out if you’re a match – just a simple swab test can tell.

You can find out more about fundraising for Emma and James on their dedicated Facebook page, www.facebook.com/EmmandJamesNeedYou.
