Fingerprint Cards’ swipe sensor technology has won an additional smartphone design-win (DW)* from a Top 10 smartphone manufacturer in China.

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has earlier announced multiple mobile phone DWs in China and Japan and in an additional third Asian country. This new DW for an Android smartphone model from a Top 10 Chinese smartphone brand (including foreign brands) who in 2012 sold +6 million smartphones, is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2013. Due to the prevailing competitive situation, the mobile phone manufacturer wants to remain anonymous until further notice.

Johan Carlström, President and Chief Executive Officer of FPC, comments:
“China is now the world’s by far largest market for smartphones, with a forecasted sales volume of +430 million units in 2013. Chinese brands already account for a market share of more than 50%. We are delighted to announce this new smartphone
design win from a Top 10 Chinese smartphone brand in this most vital market. Due to our world-leading capacitive fingerprint technology, image quality and superior power consumption, FPC is now established as the leading alternative for fingerprint sensors in smartphones and tablets, winning 100% of all announced projects and DW for smartphones and tablets to date. We expect multiple additional design wins in China, other parts of Asia as well as in North America in the coming months.”

*FPC definition of Design Win (DW): The decision by a device vendor (OEM or ODM) to start development of one or several commercial product(s) incorporating FPC’s technology into such new product(s).
