FishBrain raises capital from Almi Invest, entrepreneurs and business angels with background from Google, Spotify, Stardoll and Transmode

The Swedish mobile startup FishBrain that develops the globally leading app for anglers has raised money from Almi Invest och some of Sweden's best entrepreneurs and business angels with background from Google, Spotify, Stardoll and Transmode. FishBrain's app help sport fishermen all over the world catch more and bigger fish and share their experiences and catches.

The app was released in March this year and it already has over 100,000 registered users and 50,000 logged catches. The entrepreneurs and business angels who invested in FishBrain are:

- Mattias Miksche, founder and CEO at Stardoll and board member and investor in Dustin, Headweb, Sportamore, and others

- Rikard Steiber, EVP and Chief Digital Officer at MTG, prior to that Global Marketing Director Mobile & Social Advertising at Google and before that founder and CEO of Digiscope

- Hans Lindroth, CEO at Lingfield and board professional

- Henrik Torstensson, CEO at ShapeUp Club, prior to that leading roles at Spotify and Stardoll, investor in Videoplaza and Dexplora

- Mathias Ackermand, business angel and prior to that founder and CFO at Transmode

"As a fisherman I know the big need for an app like FishBrain. Which angler does not want a little help to catch more and bigger fish? I'm proud and very happy to have the opportunity to engage in this ground-breaking company", says Mattias Miksche, CEO and founder at Stardoll.

The team behind FishBrain is Johan Attby, Marcus Fransson and Jens Persson. Johan is a serial entrepreneur and has previously founded the software company Tific that was acquired by PlumChoice, Inc. in 2011. Johan has lived in Silicon Valley for many years and one year in Boston. FishBrain recently won Seedcamp Berlin and became member of the exclusive Seedcamp family (Seedcamp is Europe's leading accelerator for startups) and FishBrain was also awarded best startup at Slush in 2012. Innovationsbron and Umando have previously invested in FishBrain.

Sport fishing is a global mega market - globally 200 million people fish. In the US there are 40 million anglers, which is more than play golf and tennis combined, and the retail market is $45b per year. The investment helps FishBrain grow in the US where the goal is to become the market leader. After that FishBrain will expand to China, Japan and Russia, which are all big market for sport fishing.
