FishBrain was launched in March 2013. The FishBrain Co-Founder recently met in Washington, D.C. with decision makers of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation, American Sportfishing Association and others. All recognized the potential for real-time FishBrain data to electronically provide much larger pools of more accurate catch data than is currently available through costly, infrequent and time consuming traditional mail or phone surveys.       

Rapid FishBrain usage coincides with the resurgence of fishing in the U.S. The 2013 U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service survey reported 33.1 million fished in 2011 – an 11% increase vs. 2006, reversing a 20 year downward trend. According to Frank Peterson, President & CEO, Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation, an organization primarily funded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, their website referrals to state fishing license services exceeded 1.2 million last year, an increase of 11% vs. the previous year.
