30 community gardens to receive grants in 2016

MADISON, Wis. (Nov. 3, 2015) – Fiskars, a leading global supplier of consumer products for the home, garden and outdoors, is accepting applications for 2016 Project Orange Thumb garden grants in the U.S. and Canada now through February 1, 2016 at www.fiskars.com/projectorangethumb. Fiskars will award 30 applicants $3,500 in cash and tools in the coming year, with Project Orange Thumb having provided over $1.6 million to more than 180 community groups since the program began in 2002.

Fiskars’ Project Orange Thumb garden grants provide tools and resources to help communities reach their goals for neighborhood beautification, community collaboration and healthy, sustainable food sources.

With trends in the gardening space moving toward a growing sense of community and a heightened awareness of the farm-to-table movement, people are inspired to take part in projects that encourage community involvement. Farmers markets have become increasingly popular as well, putting a focus on locally grown produce and educating others on where their food comes from and its seasonality.

“Project Orange Thumb is moving into its 14th year and we’re looking forward to being able to impact even more communities across the U.S. and Canada,” said Fiskars Americas President Paul Tonnesen. “We’re proud to be able to support gardens that will bring long-lasting benefits to their local communities and inspire groups to share their passion for gardening.”
