Thousands of kids scissors and rulers make way to Louisiana for start of school

Madison, Wis. (August 2, 2010) – Fiskars, a leading supplier of tools for the home, garden and outdoors, responds to First Lady of Louisiana Supriya Jindal’s request for school supplies by donating over $17,000 in supplies to aid children impacted by the catastrophic oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.

The #1 Teacher Recommend Brand in kids scissors is donating 5,000 kids scissors and 2,000 rulers.

“Coastal families in Louisiana are facing unprecedented challenges without needing the added pressure of obtaining school supplies for their children,” said Fiskars President Paul Tonnesen. “Fiskars wants to make back to school a little easier for Louisiana families and is proud to be able to provide the necessary supplies to help start off the school year right.”

First Lady Supriya Jindal called for support of school children impacted by the oil spill earlier this summer, stating that much of the population in coastal Louisiana relies on jobs in the oil and fishing industries – both of which are crippled by the spill.
