Fiskars Group sets a long-term net-zero climate target
In addition to its current short-term targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Fiskars Group is setting a long-term net-zero emissions target. The company plans to reduce climate emissions in its operations and the whole value chain to net zero by the year 2049, which will also be the year Fiskars Group turns 400 years. Fiskars Group has also submitted its new net-zero emissions target for SBTi’s approval.
“Sustainability is one of the key enablers of our strategy, and it is also transforming Fiskars Group for the long-term. Therefore setting a long-term net-zero climate target is a natural step for us on our transformation journey”, says Fiskars Group’s President and CEO, Nathalie Ahlström.
In addition to the new net-zero target, Fiskars Group continues to be committed to its three environmental short-term targets:
- Circular economy: A majority of the company’s net sales comes from circular products and services by 2030.
- Own emissions: Reducing GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 60% from a 2017 base year by 2030, and from transportation and distribution (Scope 3) by 30% from a 2018 base year by 2030.
- Suppliers' emissions: 60% of suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services will have science-based targets by 2024.
“We will continue to work towards achieving these short-term environmental targets. We have already taken numerous concrete steps in developing circularity, increasing operational efficiency, investing in renewable energy, and supporting our suppliers in setting science-based targets. We will now develop a roadmap beyond the short-term, and to reach net zero by 2049 – just in time for our 400th anniversary year”, Ahlström continues.
Recognition for actions taken to achieve Fiskars Group’s sustainability targets
Fiskars Group has again achieved the Leadership level, this time with an A− rating, for its climate actions by the global non-profit organization CDP. This recognition has been given thanks to the company’s transparent reporting and ambitious climate work. CDP is a global environmental non-profit organization that collects, analyzes and scores companies’ sustainability actions and targets. In addition, CDP has recognized Fiskars Group as a 2023 Supplier Engagement Leader. The recognition is for Fiskars Group’s efforts to measure and reduce climate risk within its supply chain.
“We are very proud of these recognitions, and we will continue to work relentlessly also in the future to improve our sustainability performance”, Ahlström says.
