13 July 2010 GRAND HOMECOMING FOR CANNONBALL RUN All the glitz and glamour of the Cannonball run descended on The Grand Hotel in Brighton when a cavalcade of super cars ranging from classic Mustangs to modern-day Maseratis completed a 2,500 mile round trip across seven different countries in Europe. The Grand hosted a glittering award ceremony for the “ballers” who had just taken part in the run which took them from Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, Surrey to Portoroz on the Slovenian Coast and then back to Brighton. Over six days the contestants took in the Italian Riviera, the world famous Monza race circuit and the Palace of Versailles, before completing their epic journey at The Grand. The collection of cars, including a number of Bentley GT Continentals, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Audi R8’s, a Porsche Carrera GT, and a Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible, turned heads along Brighton sea-front before the contestants shared experiences at The Grand’s black tie awards ceremony. Andrew Mosley, general manager at The Grand, Brighton, said: “We were delighted to host the party for the Cannonball contestants who were in great spirits after completing the last leg of their journey from Versailles. The run featured some fantastic cars and took in a number of iconic landmarks across Europe. It was fitting it should end at The Grand, the UK’s most iconic hotel which has been the preferred choice and place to be for all manner of celebrations over the years.” Ends For further editorial information please contact Lisa Ellams or Steve Dann at Fleet Street Consulting on 0121 262 3900 or email steve@fleetstreetconsulting.co.uk / lisa@fleetstreetconsulting.co.uk Note to editors: The Cannonball name originates from the die-hard adventurer Erwin G. “Cannonball” Baker, the greatest cross-country record breaker of them all. Baker set 143 American distance records including a 53.5 hour coast to coast solo drive averaging over 50 mph in 1933.
