15 June 2010 NEW GENERAL MANAGER FOR THE GRAND, BRIGHTON A hotelier, who first started his hospitality career as a junior porter, has been appointed general manager at The Grand, Brighton - one of the UK’s most iconic hotels. Andrew Mosley joins The Grand from Q Hotels owned Norton Park in Winchester where he oversaw a £14million investment in the hotel. It is the third time Andrew has worked for De Vere, who own The Grand. He started his career as a porter at the Royal Bath in Bournemouth whilst studying for a degree in hotel management and later had spells as a general manager in Swindon and as director of operations at The Belfry near Sutton Coldfield. During his time in the hospitality industry Andrew has worked for a number of hotel groups and gained his first senior management position as general manager at a four star hotel in Penrith, Cumbria. Commenting on his move to The Grand, Andrew said: “It is fantastic to be given the responsibility of heading up such an iconic hotel as The Grand with its enviable setting and historic character. I’m very fortunate to have been offered the sort of opportunity many in the industry would like. “I’m looking forward to working closely with Visit Brighton, the local tourism body, and other industry partners in Brighton to attract more conference business to the Grand, whilst on the leisure front we will be hoping to build the short-break and weekend visitor market as more and more people rediscover all of what this classic seaside destination has to offer.” As well as attracting more business and leisure visitors, Andrew is keen for the hotel to be more widely used by local Brighton people. “The local community is proud of The Grand and we sit right at the heart of the community, so it’s important people feel comfortable enough to pop in for afternoon tea or book dinner so they can experience what we have to offer,” he added. A married man with two daughters, Andrew lives in Hampshire.
