In ‘Yo Face Mayans: Hot Choco-lite to Flow Like Water Down South Street December 22-23rd
The Lite Choice Celebrates Mayan Apocalyptic Myth By Offering Once Sacred, Mesoamerican Ingredient to People of Philly
What: The Lite Choice, Philly’s newest, healthy frozen dessert, is giving away free Hot Choco-lite (pending our survival that is) December 22 and 23 in celebration of surviving the catastrophic end date of a 5125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar.
The Mayans were the first true chocolate aficionados, treasuring cacao as a restorative, mood-enhancing cure-all. It became an integral part of their society, used in ceremonies, given as gifts and incorporated into their mythologies. It also played a part in Mayan religion, as the Mayan’s sacred book, Popul Vuh, contains their story of the creation, and instead of an apple tree, there’s a cacao tree. These first chocolate-lovers did not make chocolate bars, as we know them today. Instead, the beans were ground into a coarse paste and mixed with spices, water and chilies to create a variety of hot and cold frothy, bitter drinks.
Using farm fresh dairy, The Lite Choice is low in calories and fat, has no rBST hormones, no preservatives, no artificial additives, and no corn syrup, and is gluten free and kosher.
