Swedbank to open representation office in Shanghai Swedbank is planning to open a representation office in Shanghai, PRC, the first Swedish bank to do so. At present, the bank is in the final stages of negotiations in Shanghai, and if all the requisite permits are granted, it hopes to have the office operational by the start of 2001. Having a representation office in Shanghai will position Swedbank to provide better-than-ever support to its customers in one of the largest markets in the world. With China´s upcoming membership in the WTO, prospects are good for even more favourable development of the trade between China and Sweden. Shanghai is the centre of a highly dynamic part of China, and many Swedish companies have already elected to set up operations in that area.
