Cartoon characters cook up fun in Chigwell for National Care Home Open Day 2015

A cocktail of cartoon characters, including Minnie Mouse, Pocahontas and Merida, greeted visitors to a Chigwell care home when Belmont Lodge Care Centre hosted a barbecue party as part of National Care Home Open Day 2015.

“Residents, families and staff dressed up as their favourite cartoon characters and everyone had a fantastic time. The sun shone, the food was great and the larger-than-life characters added to the happy atmosphere as visitors and residents chatted together,” says manager, Maureen McDonagh.

One of the aims of the UK-wide initiative Care Home Open Day is to build relationships between care home residents, staff and local people, and give people the opportunity to see for themselves the kind of excellent care services available in their area.

“Our care home is very homely and welcoming, and full of friendly, caring, interesting people. We welcome visitors any time, not just on Care Home Open Day, and they will always be greeted warmly. Most people don’t bother about care homes until they have to – and unfortunately, there are lots of misconceptions about residential care - so the National Care Home Open Day has an important role to play,” adds Maureen.

Belmont Lodge is located on Fencepiece Road in Chigwell, and offers 24-hour residential care for older people, with a particular specialism in dementia care. It also provides respite care and post-operative care. The home has 40 bedrooms, most of which have ensuite facilities, and five day rooms where residents can enjoy views over the beautiful gardens. The home is one of 13 in the Forest Healthcare family of homes, offering excellent care throughout Greater London and the South East.
