Centenary Celebrations for Resident at Pinehurst

There could be no greater gift for Crowthorne resident, Mary Boyd, as she celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by three generations of family, and holding hands with her own special hero - husband Cyril - at the Pinehurst Care Centre in Berkshire.

“They’re such a lovely, caring couple, and have so many visitors, including their great-grandchildren,” explains Centre Manager, Lynne Cotterell. “So there was no better way to mark Mary’s 100th birthday than a family party.” Before becoming residents, Mr and Mrs Boyd had always lived in the same neighbourhood as the Pinehurst Care Centre.  Cyril actually built their marital home just round the corner, and now their granddaughter lives in the same house with her own family. “Mary and Cyril have been married for over 65 years and love each other so much,” adds Lynne. “They will sit together and hold hands for hours - very romantic.”

Mary has been living at the Pinehurst Care Centre for over 4 years, and Cyril spent lunchtimes with her every day, until he too became a resident in 2012. Mary is the second oldest resident of Pinehurst (the oldest is 102), with Cyril a youngster at 98. Staff and fellow residents treated the couple and their family – including great-grandchildren - to birthday cake, flowers and balloons for the special celebration.

Pinehurst Care Centre is located on Duke’s Ride in Crowthorne, Berkshire, with 47 bedrooms offering a friendly, family environment for persons over 65 with a range of needs including dementia, from respite and post-operative care to crisis intervention and emergency admissions.
