National Care Home Open Day, Friday 20 June 2014

A host of special guests, tours, workshops and entertainment are planned for Friday 20 June, when Forest Care Village in Borehamwood throws open its doors to the public as part of National Care Home Open Day.

The open day gives visitors a taste of what life is like as a resident at Forest Care Village, with many of its regular visitors – from officers of the local Fire Services to pet therapists with their four-legged friends – popping in for sessions throughout the open day, which runs from 10.00am to 4.30pm at the custom-built care complex on Cardinal Avenue.

The fire fighters will open the day with a meet and greet session from 10.00am, warming up the visitors for the arrival of the Mayor, Councillor Pat Strack, at 11.00am, who will then be taken on a tour of Forest Care Village by staff and residents.

From 12 noon until 1pm, physical activity will be the focus, with demonstrations of the gym and physiotherapy unit whilst those looking for a more relaxing time can enjoy beauty treatments in the dedicated salon with a holistic therapist.  A barbecue at 2pm, flower arranging in the sensory garden and live music performed in the heart of the home, the main atrium, from 3.00pm.  Pet therapy around the home in the late afternoon will bring the open day to a close at around 4.30pm.

“There is so much going on at Forest Care Village every single day that we wanted to give visitors a chance to see the wonderful environment we create for those in our care,” comments operations manager, Breda Neal.  “We’re hoping that our neighbours and people from the local community will just drop in at any time for a cup of tea and a cake, join in some of the fun and games and have a good look around the different facilities in our dedicated units.”

For anyone wanting to take a look at the accommodation at Forest Care Village, a couple of ‘show rooms’ will be open for viewing.

“It is wonderful to be participating in this national open day initiative, but for anyone who wants to come and look around Forest Care Village, every day is an open day – we welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” adds Breda.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

The custom-built home features 178 bedrooms, all of which are ensuite, spread across three floors.  Each floor is self-contained and staffed according to the needs of the residents, from those with long-term neurological or spinal conditions aged 18 and over, to a specialist dementia unit.  Forest Care Village is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on Warren Lodge, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 186.
