Friday 19 June

There’s a sizzle in store for local people at Bridgeside Lodge Care Centre on Friday 19 June, when the Islington care home hosts a barbecue for visitors as part of National Care Home Open Day 2015.

The doors to the home and its pretty canal-side gardens will open for a relaxed afternoon, including live entertainment, from 2pm-5pm. Visitors are welcome to soak up the atmosphere, and chat with residents and members of staff, hear their stories and find out what Bridgeside Lodge is all about.

“Most people don’t bother about care homes until they have to so the National Care Home Open Day is a perfect opportunity for people to see for themselves the kind of excellent care services available in their area. Unfortunately, there are lots of misconceptions about residential care but the truth is that care homes can be very homely and welcoming, and full of friendly, caring, interesting people. If you’re ever faced with having to find a care home for yourself or a loved one that’s important to know,” says comments centre manager, Fatma Makalo.

One of the aims of the UK-wide initiative Care Home Open Day is to build relationships between care home residents, staff and local people, something that Fatma supports and hopes may encourage members of the public to think about volunteering or befriending a resident.

The custom-built care home, which looks after people aged 18 and over with neurological and spinal conditions, as well as older residents, provides an idyllic setting in the heart of Islington on Wharf Road. It has 64 bedrooms spread across four independently-operating floors, each catering for the different needs of residents. Bridgeside Lodge is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 13 individual homes throughout the South East of England. For more information on Bridgeside Lodge, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 0207 250 0156. Visits are welcomed at any time, with no appointment necessary.
