With the sun beating down, Spanish flag bunting hung all around, and staff and residents alike dressed in red and wearing matador-hats, visitors to the Warren Lodge Care Centre in Wokingham could have been forgiven for thinking they were in Madrid or Seville on Friday 20 June, as the home hosted a Spanish-themed open day!

The event was part of the National Care Home Open Day initiative, and for residents at Warren Lodge, meant that their entertainment had a Castillian feel, their usual cups of tea were swapped for glasses of Sangria, and their traditional dinner was replaced with tapas and paella!

“We had kept our fingers crossed for good weather, and thankfully, the British sunshine felt more like the Mediterranean as our residents enjoyed the summer afternoon,” comments centre manager, Anthony Browne.  “Our staff and residents put in great effort on the costumes, and having dinner served by a traditional Flamenco dancer – in the form of events co-ordinator, Emma Harvey - was the cherry on the cake – or perhaps more appropriately, the olive on top of the tortilla!”

Anyone who missed the open day at Warren Lodge but still wants to look around is welcome to visit at any other time.  “We welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” adds Anthony.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

Warren Lodge Care Centre is located on Warren Lane in Finchampstead, Wokingham, with 51 bedrooms many of which have leafy views over the Berkshire farmland and countryside.  The home offers a friendly, family environment for persons over 65, including specialist dementia care.  Warren Lodge is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on Warren Lodge, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 186.
