Visitors will be invited to roll up their trouser legs, knot their handkerchiefs and relax in the sunshine (weather permitting!) on Friday 20 June when Hassingham House Care Centre in Hingham throws open its doors, gardens and a mini-beach for National Care Home Open Day.

Parasols, windbreaks, a palm tree and a sandpit will help create a party atmosphere at the home, which is opening its doors to the public as part of the national scheme to encourage communities to engage with residential care providers.  Children from the local school have been invited along, and members of the public can pop in to enjoy the landlocked beach party from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.

“We often have fun events for our residents and families, so we’re very much looking forward to sharing the afternoon with other people from the local community, too,” comments events co-ordinator for Hassingham House, Karen Higgs.  “We’ll have one of our residents’ favourite singers, PJ Laney, performing through the afternoon, and in keeping with the seaside theme, we’ve got a beach barbecue planned for 3.00pm and even a Punch and Judy show at 3.30pm!”

For anyone wanting to take a look at the accommodation at Hassingham House, a number of available rooms will be open for viewing.

“It is wonderful to be participating in this national open day initiative, but for anyone who wants to come and look around Hassingham, every day is an open day – we welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” comments centre manager, Sally Lee.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

Hassingham House is situated on Hardingham Street in Hingham, with 44 bedrooms offering a friendly, family environment for both younger people recovering from trauma – including a specialist 24 hour neurological and spinal injury nursing care – and elderly residents who require nursing care.  Hassingham House is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on Hassingham House, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 173.
