The Mayor of Borehamwood, Councillor Pat Strack, spent the morning chatting to residents and enjoying a special tour of the facilities at Forest Care Village in Borehamwood on Friday (20 June) when the home opened its doors as part of the National Care Home Open Day scheme.

Cllr Strack was shown around the home by the lifestyle team, who are responsible for many aspects of day-to-day life for residents from the care centre, including a visit to the ‘home’ room, specially designed to recreate a traditionally furnished and decorated domestic lounge, complete with armchairs and a fireplace.  The room is used to offer a safe, comfortable environment for those living with dementia.

The mayoral visit, which co-incided with a (planned!) visit from local fire officers kicked off a full day of activities and events, culminating in a garden barbecue for residents and families in the afternoon.

“We really pushed the boat out this year with a packed programme of events and activities to really showcase life for our residents here at Forest Care Village,” comments group manager, Breda Neal.  “From floristry to pet therapy and live music, the whole place was abuzz as residents and guests alike joined in the festivities.”

Anyone who missed the open day at Forest Care Village but still wants to look around is welcome to visit at any other time.  “We welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” adds Breda.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

The custom-built home features 178 bedrooms, all of which are ensuite, spread across three floors.  Each floor is self-contained and staffed according to the needs of the residents, from those with long-term neurological or spinal conditions aged 18 and over, to a specialist dementia unit.  Forest Care Village is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on Forest Care Village, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 174.
