“OUTSTANDING” – Top accolade for Crowthorne Care Home
Outstanding care – that’s the verdict of the inspectors from the Care Quality Commission on Pinehurst Care Centre in Crowthorne, which has been awarded the coveted ‘outstanding’ status – putting it in the top 1% of homes in the country!
The rating recognises the incredible work of manager Lynne Cotterell and her team, who offer full time residential care for up to 47 people.
“We have a mantra here that our residents don’t live in our place of work, we work in our residents’ home and we view it as an incredible privilege to do so. That underpins everything we do to ensure that the people in our care have the best possible life experience here at Pinehurst” explains Lynne, who has worked at Pinehurst since 2009. “Residents joining us are made to feel as though they are joining a family, and the staff here are incredibly dedicated to look after everyone as though they were a direct relative – with love, respect, care and warmth. We know all of our residents extremely well, which means we can actively engage with them in activities and conversation, and notice when someone might be quieter than usual – spotting issues before they become problems. We also have an incredible community around us including relatives, friends and professionals who feel the same love, passion and pride for Pinehurst."
Indeed, inspectors noted that one of the residents described a member of staff as ‘the son I never had’, and another described them as ‘like my family’.
One initiative picked out for praise was a partnership with ‘Ladder to the Moon’, which seems homes provided with themed boxes each month to support innovative approaches to person-centred activities, particularly helping staff to reach residents who may feel isolated, even in the care home setting. From organising more visits by rabbits to one resident who enjoyed stroking them, to setting up a ‘pub’ where other residents could watch football and enjoy a beer with visiting members of their family or off-duty staff.
Pinehurst Care Centre is part of the Forest Healthcare family of 13 homes across the South East, and the third to achieve ‘outstanding’ status. Chief Executive, Paul Musgrave comments: “We are incredibly proud of Lynne and her team for what they have achieved, and it is wonderful that the inspectors recognised the passion and dedication with which each member of staff delivers this highest quality of care. They embrace with enthusiasm and gusto any initiative which will make the lives of those living at Pinehurst better and this is reflected in the feedback we regularly receive from residents, families and visiting healthcare professionals.”
