'Outstanding' - top rating for Islington Care Home

Staff and residents at an Islington care home are celebrating after receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating by industry watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an unannounced inspection earlier this year.  Bridgeside Lodge, which sits on the Regent’s Canal, is one of only 26 homes in the country to receive the top rating.

The caring and responsive nature of staff within the care home were singled out for special praise by the team of four, which included two inspectors and a specialist nurse, following a day examining procedures and policies, and talking to staff, residents and residents’ relatives about the care provided in the custom-build care home, which is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes.

“We are absolutely delighted with this rating, which is a testament to the hard work of our staff and the manager, Fatma Makalo, who offer the highest levels of care to all of the residents, from younger clients with neurological conditions to elderly residents living well with dementia,” comments Forest Healthcare’s Chief Executive, Paul Musgrave.  “The team at Bridgeside Lodge work especially hard to keep up high standards of care with providing warmth and companionship to all of our residents which gives them a sense of belonging as part of the community.”

The report, which was published last week, highlights a range of initiatives which are being rolled out at Forest Healthcare’s 13 homes throughout the South East, including the ‘People Like Me’ project which helps connect staff, relatives and friends together through shared interests, experiences and beliefs.  “In life, we make friends with people who share our interests, but in a care home environment, it can be difficult to find others who have the same passions, so this scheme is a great way of breaking down barriers, using interests from football to tattoos to strike up new conversations and friendships,” comments centre manager, Fatma Makalo.  “Our residents might be with us for a few days, or they might be here for months or years, so we do our very best to ensure that they live their lives to the full whilst they are here in our care.”
