A pearly king and queen will be putting in a performance at The Poplars Care Centre in Maidstone on Friday 20 June, when the care home opens its doors from 2.00pm until 4.00pm as part of National Care Home Open Day.

The Pearly King and Queen will be singing and entertaining residents, visitors and guests as part of an afternoon of fun and treats in the traditional garden party, which will include fun stalls – including ‘Guess the name of the Pearly Bear’ and a fun tombola – and delicious afternoon team, with scones, jam and cream or strawberries and ice cream for those dropping in.

One of the newest features of the home – a pop-up replica of a traditional pub used to stimulate familiar memories for those suffering with dementia– will also be put into good use, serving liquid refreshment to those having fun at the open day.

“Keeping our residents entertained and active is an important part of life here at The Poplars, so when we heard about the National Care Home Open Days, we invited some of our regular entertainers along to lend a hand,” says centre manager, Marion Harford.  “It is wonderful chance for those considering their own future care needs, or those of a family member, to share some fun with us, and take a look around the home.”

Indeed, anyone wanting to take a look at the accommodation at The Poplars will be able to look around a couple of ‘show rooms’, which will be open for viewing.

“It is wonderful to be participating in this national open day initiative, but for anyone who wants to come and look around The Poplars, every day is an open day – we welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” adds Marion.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

The Poplars Care Centre is located on Tonbridge Road in Maidstone, with 56 bedrooms offering a friendly, family environment for persons over 65 with a range of needs, from respite and post-operative care to crisis intervention and emergency admissions.  The Poplars is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on The Poplars, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 179.
