Residents at a canal-side care home in Islington are promising a warm welcome for anyone who drops in during this weekend’s Angel Canal Festival (Sunday 7 September 2014).  Bridgeside Lodge on Wharf Road, which overlooks the Regent’s Canal, will open its gardens for visitors from 11am to 5.00pm.

“It is wonderful to have such a vibrant festival right on the doorstep, and we’re looking forward to hearing the brass band and seeing the canal really come alive for the day,” comments centre manager, Fatma Makalo.  “We’re planning a barbecue, live music and a tombola for our residents, and visitors will be very welcome to come and join our celebrations whilst they are down at the Festival.”

The care home, which provides long term care for both younger clients and the elderly, will also be fundraising with afternoon tea for visitors, various stalls and games, and a tombola, which will be drawn in the afternoon by the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Theresa Debono, during her visit to the Festival.  The home’s catering team will be baking cupcakes, and have also prepared a large confection for a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competition.
