A Western-themed afternoon hosted by a Maidstone care home as part of National Care Home Open Day 2015 got the thumbs up from visitors and residents alike and saw staff swap their usual attire for cowboy clothes, complete with Stetsons and checked shirts!

“Everyone had a great time and the live country music added to the happy atmosphere as visitors and residents chatted together,” says comments Marion Harford who managers The Poplars on Tonbridge Road.

One of the aims of the UK-wide initiative Care Home Open Day is to build relationships between care home residents, staff and local people, and give people the opportunity to see for themselves the kind of excellent care services available in their area.

“Our care home is very homely and welcoming, and full of friendly, caring, interesting people. We welcome visitors any time, not just on Care Home Open Day, and they will always be greeted warmly. As those who joined us for the open day learned, we like to make life fun and stimulating for our residents so there’s always something different going on,” adds Marion Harford.

The Poplars Care Centre is located on Tonbridge Road in Maidstone, with 56 bedrooms offering a friendly, family environment for persons over 65 with a range of needs, from respite and post-operative care to crisis intervention and emergency admissions. The Poplars is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 13 individual homes throughout the South East of England.
