An award-winning Buckinghamshire care home is set to throw open its doors on Friday 20 June as part of the National Care Home Open Day, with people invited to come along and find out just what makes Woodlands Park stand out.

Woodlands Park is a specialist dementia care home based in Great Missenden, and is opening its doors to visitors for a full day from 10.00am until 4.00pm.  Visitors – whether looking for a secure home for a loved-one, or just wanting to enjoy the hospitality and amazing views across the Chilterns – will be able to see why the home recently earned a “Dignity and Wellbeing in Care” award earlier this year.

Those visiting the home during the morning will also be able to meet representatives of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body responsible for overseeing that high standards of care are implemented in homes across the country.

“We’re delighted to have two guests from CQC coming along to answer questions from our visitors in an informal setting, as more often, families and residents meet them when they are on official inspection duties, and they may not have the opportunity to chat or ask questions,” comments centre manager, Marie Shouler.  “We’d be more than happy to welcome anyone on the day, with a promise of a cup of tea, a cake and some great company whilst they are here!”

Throughout the open day, activities will be taking place inside the home and, weather permitting, in the extensive gardens.  There will be lively outdoor games, as well as more relaxing activities like  chocolate tasting and pizza making.  Entertainment will be provided by the ‘singing vicar’, Rev Colin Vasey who is a regular performer and visitor to the home.

For anyone wanting to take a look at the accommodation at Woodlands Park, one of the luxurious rooms will be open for viewing.

“It is wonderful to be participating in this national open day initiative, but for anyone who wants to come and look around Woodlands Park, every day is an open day – we welcome visitors to come and look around at any time without appointment as part of our open ethos so that people can get a feel for what the home is like on a ‘normal’ day,” adds Marie.  “Potential residents’ families should never feel as though a home is making an extra special effort when they are expecting visitors, standards should always be at a very high level.”

Woodlands Park is located on Aylesbury Road, just outside the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire.  Woodlands Park is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on Woodlands Park, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 252.
