With UK ‘A’ Level Students finding out their results this week and the focus being firmly on education, thanks to Foresters UK 150 students will have a contribution to the financial costs of their further studies via the Foresters Scholarship Programme.

Foresters, the international financial services organisation, is committed to the support of the community, and has given students renewable scholarships awarding them for their outstanding educational achievements and the undertaking of volunteering projects in their community.

“The Scholarship Programme is a great success in the UK with applicants year on year establishing a phenomenal commitment to their academic studies and volunteering in their communities” said Stephen Dilworth, UK Membership Director of Foresters. “With the cost of further education spiralling in the UK, it’s great that Foresters can give students some financial strength in achieving their education goals.”

For over 20 years, Foresters UK has awarded more than 1000 scholarships to students who have shared their commitment to community service and who have proved a solid academic performance. In total, over £1.5 million has been awarded in financial support in the UK.

In addition, each year Foresters makes a ‘Student of the Year’ award which is based on a students work in the community, including any volunteering work and fund raising. Oliver Butterworth from Lincolnshire is the UK’s 2011 Student of the year and currently studying Bachelor of Music Degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Oliver was extremely active in his community sharing his gifts in music and engaging young people by going into schools on a weekly basis and teaching younger children how to play instruments including ‘percussion workshops’ and arranging local and national charity concerts.

Children/Grandchildren of Foresters Members, or youths who hold their own Foresters insurance policies, are eligible to apply for the Foresters Scholarship Programme. Members interested in applying for a scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year can do so until the 31st January 2013.
