Press release

Fortum’s affiliate Oskarshamns Kraftgrupp AB (OKG) has decided to investigate the possibility of increasing the power of unit 2 at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant. In the autumn, the company will submit an application for the power increase to the Swedish Environmental Court and the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate.

Fortum has a 43% interest in OKG. After unit 2’s power increase, Fortum’s share of the nuclear power plant’s capacity will increase by approximately 80 megawatts. The power increase is projected to be completed in 2011.

Last autumn, the Swedish government approved a 250-megawatt power increase of the OKG Oskarshamn unit 3. After the power increases of units 2 and 3, Fortum’s share of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant’s production will increase by a total of approximately 185 megawatts.

“Increasing nuclear power capacity is part of Fortum’s investment programme in zero-emission electricity production. Presently, some 90% of the electricity produced by Fortum is already CO2-free.” comments Fortum Senior Vice President Tapio Kuula.
