- a significant new operation and maintenance agreement signed

Fortum has signed a 6 year contract with Knapsack Power GmbH & Co. KG which is owned and operated by Norwegian Statkraft. The contract applies to an 800 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant situated in Hürth-Knapsack near Cologne. The plant exemplifies progressive technology and is currently under construction. The commercial operation will begin in summer 2007. The contract is the second of its kind within a year and strengthens Fortum's position as a significant gas turbine plant operation and maintenance operator in Germany. In August last year Fortum signed a 15 year operation and maintenance contract of a similar gas turbine plant. "We are very satisfied with the contract. Fortum's long-term operation and maintenance expertise as well as extensive international references will help us to secure the optimal start and high availability for the Knapsack power plant and to learn the operation and maintenance business for gas fired generation, which is very important for us," says Dr. Jürgen Tzschoppe, managing director of Knapsack Power. "Our status as an independent operation and maintenance service provider is significantly strengthened along with the signing of the contract in the currently fast growing German markets", says Mr Osmo Lähelmä of Fortum.
