Starting in the beginning of 2008, Fortum will buy all the nuclear fuel used in the Loviisa nuclear power plant from Russian TVEL Corporation. The contract will cover the nuclear fuel deliveries to the Loviisa power plant until the end of the lifetime of both units. The contract was preceded by an international bidding process organised by Fortum.

Russian nuclear fuel has been delivered to the Loviisa power plant during its entire 30 years of operational life. One of the suppliers has been TVEL Corporation.

"The cooperation with the Russian nuclear fuel suppliers has worked well, and we are very satisfied with the delivery contract that has now been signed. It helps us guarantee the supply of competitive fuel for the Loviisa nuclear power plant until the end of its lifetime," says Senior Vice President Tapio Kuula.

TVEL Corporation is the leading nuclear fuel producer in Russia. It delivers fuel for 73 reactors in Russia and exports fuel to 13 countries.
