Report this content

The Finnish Government has today, 26 July 2007, granted new operating licences to Loviisa nuclear power plant units 1 and 2. The licences were applied for by Fortum Power and Heat Oy last fall. For Loviisa 1, the new licence is valid until the end of 2027 and for Loviisa 2, until the end of 2030. The current licences, which were granted in 1998, expire at the end of this year.

Fortum’s Loviisa power plant has produced nuclear power for thirty years. During this time, the plant’s safety and operability have been continuously improved with technical improvements and by investments into developing expertise and safety culture. Fortum’s long-term objective is to safely use the plant units for at least fifty years. The new licences granted today will give a solid foundation for further sustainable development of both safety and operability.
