Peter Lund receives the Fortum Foundation’s honorary award

The Fortum Foundation contributes 700,000 euros to energy research.

The Fortum Foundation’s grants for 2008 were announced in Espoo on Tuesday, 26 February 2008. During the ceremony, the Foundation awarded 10,000 euros to Helsinki University of Technology Professor Peter Lund for his lasting contribution to research and teaching in the energy sector. The Fortum Foundation supports research, teaching and development work in the energy sector, with emphasis on energy production and use as well as energy solutions for traffic.

Professor Lund has been Professor in Technical Physics in Helsinki University of Technology since 1993. He is an internationally renowned expert in energy technology. His principal achievements are in the field of renewable energy technologies, which include solar energy, fuel cell technologies, distributed energy systems, hydrogen technologies and wind power. Lund has published over 400 scientific articles and has supervised more than 20 Ph.D. and Licentiate theses and numerous Master’s degree theses in the energy technology sector.

Lund holds many elected positions in Finland and abroad, including his role as energy expert for Nordic and European energy authorities. During 2002–2006, Lund was the chairman of the EU Advisory Group on Energy. He has also taken part in energy cooperation between the Baltic countries and Russia and in numerous national energy programmes. In addition, he is the European editor for Energy Research magazine.

The amount of new grants awarded by the Fortum Foundation in 2008 is a total of EUR 462,000. When further funding for multiyear projects is taken into consideration, the total sum of awarded grants for 2008 is EUR 700,000.
