Fortum joins the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance
Fortum is well-positioned for the hydrogen economy and wants to be part of the development by joining European Clean Hydrogen Alliance.
The clearest opportunities for Fortum in building the hydrogen economy are in the decarbonisation of industries by leveraging its CO2-free electricity portfolio for production of clean and low-carbon hydrogen.
Together with its largest subsidiary Uniper, it is the 3rd largest producer of CO2-free electricity in Europe. Uniper is a pioneer in clean hydrogen development and in the power-to-gas field in general. Uniper is also a member of European Clean Hydrogen Alliance.
Before joining the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, Fortum has formed a Hydrogen Development team in 2019 and joined Hydrogen Europe, the biggest industry association in Europe.
What is the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance?
The European Clean Hydrogen Alliance is a platform established by the European Commission bringing together industry, national and local public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders, aiming to establish an investment agenda and support the scaling up of the hydrogen value chain across Europe.
The platform has been announced as part of the new industrial strategy as hydrogen was identified among the European value chains. The alliance will establish an investment agenda to support scaling up production and demand for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen.
